JAMES J. “JIM” MAYS 1942 - 2020

 

James J. "Jim" Mays, 77, of Rockford, was welcomed into heaven on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at SwedishAmerican Hospital. Born November 19, 1942, in Milwaukee, WI, the son of James L. and Laverne H. (Doffek) Mays. Graduate of Rockford Aurburn High School, Class of 1962 and received his Bachelors Degree from Rockford College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Airforce. Jim married Linda J. Miller on October 12, 1963, in Rockford. He was a police officer for the Rockford Police Department, retiring as a Lieutenant after 40 years. Jim was a member of Maywood Evangelical Free Church where he sang in the Choir, taught Adult Sunday School and helped with Community Bible Study. He also enjoyed playing golf. Survived by his wife, Linda; children, James D. (Melanie) Mays of Stillman Valley, IL, Gary Mays of Rockford, Daniel (Sarah) Mays of Arlington Heights, IL, and Bethany (JD) Norman of Woodstock, IL; grandchildren, Lauren, Brooke, Dylan, Kyra, Kailey, and Hannah-Beth Mays; brother, Robert (Jean) Mays. Predeceased by his parents. The family would like to thank SwedishAmerican Hospital for their care.
Private family burial in Willwood Burial Park with a Memorial Service at a later date.
