It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Cheryl Ann Straight. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 30, 2025. Born Cheryl Ann Dobbs on November 1, 1944, in Hoxie, Arkansas, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and retired Registered Nurse who spent her life caring for others. Her spirit, strength, and sense of humor were an inspiration to all who knew her. For nearly thirty years, Cheryl lived in Fort Myers, Florida, but four years ago she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where she could be closer to some of her loved ones. Throughout her career as a pediatric psych nurse, she touched countless young lives with her compassionate care and unwavering dedication, retiring in 2011. Cheryl was a voracious reader, a lifelong learner, and an ocean breeze seeker. Cheryl was affectionate, tender-hearted, and had a youthful spirit. In her retirement, Cheryl found joy seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cheryl is survived by her daughter, Lisa Ekwall; her sons, Tom (Michelle) Brown and Dan (Ronda) Brown; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Kari, Logan, Megan, Katie, Dylan and Makenna; her great-grandchildren, Patrick, Jackson, Chase, Violet and Henry; her sisters, Melba Birmingham, Pat Taylor and Kathy Olivotti; her brothers, Jerry (Sarah) Dobbs, Ron (Joan) Dobbs, Steve (Serina) Dobbs and Jeff (Leann) Dobbs; and countless nieces and nephews. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Anna Dobbs; her daughter, Patricia Kay Brown; and her sister, Peggy Lawrence.
