CARL D. CURTIS, 66 MACHESNEY PARK - Carl D. Curtis, 66, of Machesney Park passed away at 1:06 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 2, 1944, in Rockford, the son of Carl and Lillian Curtis, He graduated from Auburn High School in 1962, the very first graduating class. Carl served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was an avid bowler, golfer, fisherman and NASCAR racing fan. Carl enjoyed a long career with Rockford Blacktop before retiring after more than 30 years of service. Later he enjoyed his work with his family at Teslow Garages. He married Connie Holliday on May 13, 1977, she survives him, also survived by sons, Jeff (Cheryl) Woodard, Brad Curtis and Brian Hartzell; daughter, Cari Brown; grandchildren, Paige Woodard and Thomas Curtis; sisters, Judy (Bill) McWilliams, Sherry (Jim) Copas and Linda (Ron) Tallacksen; sister-in-law, Shirley (Gary) Eilers; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and father and mother-in-law, Russell and Helen Holliday. Memorial service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Sunset Funeral Home, Machesney Park, with visitation from 1 p.m. to time of service. Online condolences may be submitted, sunsetfhmemgardens .com.
