Charles A. “Buzz” Bloomster, Jr, 79, lifelong Rockford resident, died on Friday, September 22,
2023 in UW Health Swedish American Hospital. Born July 9, 1944, son of Charles A. Sr. and
Thelma Van Buskirk Bloomster. Graduated with the first graduating class of Auburn High School
in 1962 and was employed by Woodward Governor for 37 years. Veteran of the United States
Army. Married Inis Thompson in 1969 and together they shared a life of love and adventure. He
played rhythm guitar and sang in several groups performing throughout his life at different
venues. He also enjoyed singing in the choir at Central Christian Church. He loved old cars and
volunteering at car shows that supported a multitude of charities. He always had a special
connection with veterans and was involved in activities surrounding the LZ Peace Memorial and
other veterans groups. He and Inis spent many, many years actively involved with “On The
Waterfront” and Rockford Airfest. Many hours were also spent working with McG Sound at
numerous air shows through the years. Buzz was a man of many interests, but his family was
always the most important to him. When his granddaughter died from S.I.D.S. he helped establish
a golf outing that has raised thousands of dollars for S.I.D.S. of Illinois.
Loving survivors include his wife, Inis; daughters, Holley (Greg) Phillips and Julie Olmstead; son-
in-law, Nick Olmstead; grandchildren, Karley Phillips (fiance’ Ethan Wicks), Sidney Phillips,

by his parents, brother, Dennis, an infant brother and his precious granddaughter, Alexis
Olmstead.
